В обзоре представлены данные о распространенности МС и его отдельных компонентов в различных странах Европы, Азии, США и в ряде других регионов. Показана роль применяемых критериев диагностики метаболического синдрома для объективной оценки его эпидемиологии. Приведены основные результаты прогностической значимости метаболического синдрома в плане развития сахарного диабета и сердечно-сосудистых осложнений.

The review concerns epidemiology of metabolic syndrome on European countries, USA, and Asia as well as several other regions. The impact of different definitions on prevalence assessment is stressed. The results of major prognostic trials in metabolic syndrome are also discussed.
