<trans-abstract xml:lang="en">
<title>Objective</title><p>Objective. In 1994, within the framework of the third screening of the WHO «MONICA-psychosocial» program random representative sample of women aged 25–64 (n = 870), who were residents of one district in Novosibirsk, were surveyed. Social support was studied by the method of Berkman-Sim test. During the 16-year period (1994–2010) all cases of new-onset hypertension were investigated.</p>
<title>Results</title><p>Results. The prevalence of low levels of the index of close contacts (ICC) and the social network index (SNI) was 57,1 and 77,7 %, respectively. The risk of developing hypertension in those with low ICC was 2,01; 1,93 and 1,42 times higher for 5, 10 and 16 years from the date of screening, respectively (p &lt; 0,05). In women with low SNI risk of hypertension for 5 years was not signifi cant. After 10 years, the risk of hypertension was 1,88 (p &lt; 0,05), after 16 years it was 1,58 times higher compared to the subgroup with higher social support (p &lt; 0,01).</p>
<title>Conclusion</title><p>Conclusion.
