<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>Resistant hypertension is defined as uncontrolled blood pressure on optimal doses of three antihypertensive agents, including a diuretic. According to the data from different studies, its prevalence achieves 10–15 %. The upto- date approaches to classification, diagnostic algorithms are discussed; the reasons of resistant hypertension are reviewed. Special attention is paid to the opportunities of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring in distinguishing particular forms of resistant hypertension and pseudoresistant hypertension; a specific diagnostic algorithm is presented. </p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>артериальная гипертензия</kwd><kwd>резистентная гипертензия</kwd><kwd>псевдорезистентная гипертензия</kwd><kwd>суточное мониторирование артериального давления</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>arterial hypertension</kwd><kwd>resistant hypertension</kwd><kwd>pseudoresistant hypertension</kwd><kwd>ambulatory blood pressure monitoring</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Calhoun DA, Jones D, Textor S et al.
