<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The paper reviews the pathophysiological links between ischemic stroke and sleep-disordered breathing. We discuss well-known mechanisms, such as intermittent hypoxemia, disturbed sleep structure and fluctuations in intrathoracic pressure, autonomic imbalance, oxidative stress, as well as genetic factors and the role of glymphatic system. The impact of sleep-disordered breathing on the development of various subtypes of stroke (according to the TOAST classification) and the so-called “wake-up stroke” is presented.</p><p> </p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>нарушения дыхания во сне</kwd><kwd>обструктивное апноэ во сне</kwd><kwd>центральное апноэ во сне</kwd><kwd>инсульт</kwd><kwd>глимфатическая система</kwd><kwd>генетические факторы</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>sleep-disordered breathing</kwd><kwd>obstructive sleep apnea</kwd><kwd>central sleep apnea</kwd><kwd>stroke</kwd><kwd>glymphatic system</kwd><kwd>genetic polymorphisms</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">Работа выполнена при поддержке гранта Российского научного фонда № 22–25– 20155</funding-statement><funding-statement xml:lang="en">The work is supported by the grant of the Russian Science Foundation № 22–25– 20155</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Javaheri S, Peker Y, Yaggi HK, Bassetti CLA.
