<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>In recent years, fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) has garnered increasing attention as a metabolic regulator. It plays a role in the development of tissue insulin sensitivity, exerts beneficial effects on carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, and exhibits antihyperglycemic and antilipidemic properties. Elevated FGF21 levels have been observed in patients with type 2 diabetes, obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and a range of other conditions. This may indicate either resistance to FGF21 or a compensatory response to metabolic stress. Evidence suggests that FGF21 can be considered both a marker of several metabolic disorders and a potential therapeutic agent for the treatment of significant societal health issues. Objective. The objective of this review is to summarize the data published to date in the literature, including meta-analyses, reviews, and original studies, focusing on the diagnostic and potential therapeutic role of FGF21 in metabolic disorders.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>фактор роста фибробластов 21</kwd><kwd>FGF 21</kwd><kwd>ожирение</kwd><kwd>неалкогольная жировая болезнь печени</kwd><kwd>сахарный диабет 2 типа</kwd><kwd>сердечно-сосудистые заболевания</kwd><kwd>метаболические нарушения</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>fibroblast growth factor 21</kwd><kwd>FGF21</kwd><kwd>obesity</kwd><kwd>non-alcoholic fatty liver disease</kwd><kwd>type 2 diabetes</kwd><kwd>cardiovascular disease</kwd><kwd>metabolic disorders</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">Исследование выполнено при финансовой поддержке Министерства науки и высшего образования Российской Федерации (Соглашение № 075–15–2022–301 от 20.04.2022).</funding-statement><funding-statement xml:lang="en">The research was carried out with the financial support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation (Agreement No. 075–15–2022– 301 dated 20.04.2022).</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Cuevas-Ramos D, Aguilar-Salinas CA, Gómez-Pérez FJ.
