Abstract

The article highlights two remarkable scientists: Leon Abgarovich Orbeli, who proposed a theory regarding the adaptive-trophic function of the sympathetic nervous system, and Vitaly Sergeevich Ilyin, who developed and added biochemical insights to this theory. For his work, Orbeli was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1934 and 1935. During challenging times for L. A. Orbeli, V. S. Ilyin remained loyal, continuing to defend and expand upon his ideas.
